From the gloom and darkness

of Friday’s betrayal

a glorious hope has emerged.

Even as the certainty

of death fills us with dread,

the promise of new life –

abundant and eternal –

greets us with the morning light.

No more shall we be brought to despair.

No more the senseless fear of night.

No more the absence of God in our grief,

for God has endured

the murderous rage of the cross,

the agonizing loneliness of the tomb,

and rises with Christ to greet

the morn, and those who mourn,

with new life;

the promise Incarnate.
