Jeremiah got a bad rap.

God,

who found us wandering;

waiting in wilderness

for holy redemption,

has more experience

than we might imagine

with exiles and their liberation.

It is God’s metier-

God’s foremost task to offer

sweet salvation

to a people whose appetites

run toward destruction and desertion.

This tale of exodus and longing

that is ours in Scripture

surely points to something greater

than a timeline to be honoured

or the thin veneer of doctrine.

It points to truth – but not the bare arrangement

of facts agreed upon – unprovable –

truth that only our imagination

can contain.
